Kevin Miller is the CEO of Born Leaders Basketball (BLB). Born Leaders Basketball is an AAU basketball program dedicated to developing young leaders on and off the court and pushing children to be their best through vigorous training and a little tough love. Birthed in Fall of 2020 during the COVID-19 pandemic when the world was at a standstill, a new business didn’t seem wise to many, but Kevin saw this as an opportunity. BLB started with only three teams, with Kevin as the sole coach, and has successfully had an annual growth rate of 50-70%. The program now averages 14 teams, and the addition of 3 staff coaches. The P.O.W.E.R Principle serves as the foundation of Born Leaders Basketball. Perseverance, Overcome Challenges, Work Hard, Exceed Expectations, and always be Ready, coined by Kevin, he believes when these 5 principles are adopted, on and off the court, you have the relentless power to become a Born Leader.
BLB is a dream come true for Kevin, a once wide-eyed nine-year-old native of New Rochelle, NY who eats and breathes basketball. He played at Remington Boys and Girls Club of New Rochelle where he was later inducted into the Basketball Hall of Fame. Kevin then continued to play basketball for New Rochelle High School and was recognized as an All-County Basketball player. Upon his graduation from New Rochelle HS, Kevin attended Westchester Community College (WCC) where he continued to improve his basketball skills. Through hard work and intense training sessions, not only did his love for the game grow, but he became a more fundamentally sound player. This was quickly recognized by recruiters as he was recruited and offered a scholarship to play for the Adelphi University Panthers. He integrated into the team and became a part of the starting lineup. During his time at Adelphi University, Kevin continued to have a strong work ethic and honed in on his skills in strength training, court awareness, and decision making. He was recognized as an all-conference player and graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration in May of 1997.
Following a successful college career, Kevin made the Semi Professional Basketball team for Brooklyn Bounce in 1998. This gave him the opportunity to showcase his skills on a more professional level. Later that same year he was given the chance of a lifetime to play Professional Basketball in Warrnambool, Australia for the Warrnambool SeaHawks where he became a key player. He was an instrumental player in helping his team win the championship in the Victorian Basketball League. This invaluable experience not only allowed him to build on his previously acquired basketball skills, but also helped his daily life off the court through refined communication skills, adaptability, and self-discipline. Kevin was
featured in various local newspapers and served as a source of inspiration to children as he facilitated at several skills workshops.
After having success as a player, Kevin switched to coaching basketball where he has acquired over 25 years of experience. He started his coaching career as an Assistant Men’s Basketball Coach at Adelphi University while finishing his degree. During his time in Australia, he also coached and implemented developmental workshops for youth. He served as a Basketball Coach and Skills Trainer for the Young World Basketball Camp in the early 2000s. In addition he was the head coach for 5 years in the Upward Basketball League in Georgia, and the head coach for girls basketball at Equality Charter Middle School in the Bronx, NY for the 2015-2016 season.
In 2016, Kevin began his AAU basketball coaching career across various terms at Fenom’s Basketball program in West Harrison, NY. He coached teams from 1st to 6th grade consisting of boys and girls and hosted group and private training sessions for players from 1st to 12th grade. During the summers, Coach Kevin served as the head basketball specialist for the Breezemont Day Camp in Armonk, NY for 5 summers.
All roads lead home, as Kevin’s experience brought him back to his hometown, New Rochelle, NY to start his program. He is committed to working long hours during the season to continue to grow his program and spend time with his family. During the day, Kevin currently works as a Transition Specialist for kids with special needs at the Kenneth B. Clarke Academy in Dobbs Ferry, NY. BLB commences after school for several hours. Though returning home tired most nights, he is grateful that he gets to share his love for basketball. He continues to develop a strong rapport with his players and their families, while helping his players realize that they are natural Born Leaders. Kevin has emphasized time and time again that Born Leaders Basketball is not just a regular basketball program but a family within itself.
